Your backup server switches from short to long name? Where? How?
Why?

As long as the tape has been overwritten you should be able to report on
it via mminfo.

Might need to do a scanner -i ssid to rebuild the client index. 1997
was quite a few years ago!!

We have had similar problems not being able to recover from nsrck -L7,
but our issue is our backup server would switch between long name/short
name whenever it was rebooted.

Correction - The file index for the client only goes back to Dec 2000
but the media database shows savesets going back to 1997

[Networker] Recovering old indexes/mm's

This email is to be read subject to the disclaimer below.

Dear List,

I am faced with a dilemma on one of my networker servers at an
interstate

site. I have to restore some data from 1997 from aqn old client. I have
recreated the client and checked the indexes - the file index only goes
back to 1997, but when I use mminfo I see that there are savesets for
this

client, and i can also see index backups as well.

The problem is when I run nsrck -L7 <client_name_here> it comes up with
this:-

S:\>nsrck -L7 foobar
nsrck: checking index for 'foobar'
nsrck: The file index for client 'foobar' will be recovered.
nsrck: The index recovery for 'foobar' failed.
nsrck: File index error: can't find index backups for 'foobar' on server

foobarbck1

nsrck: Completed checking 1 client(s)

Now when I look through the media index with mminfo I find this, a
perfectly good index backup of client foobar:-

volume client date size
level

        name
AUPERTNT_M.040 foobarbck1 25/11/2000 43 MB full
D:\win32app\nsr\index\foobar

The server is running 7.1.1 nowadays, back then it was running 5.x I
believe. Does anyone have any ideas?

Cheers,
Matt
