I believe the tape drives are IBM, but I'd have to check on that.

The way Spectralogic does it with LTO-2 drives is to connect either 3 or
4 of them to a QIP, which then has a 2 GB fibre connection into our
SAN(S).

With LTO-3, you can buy Fibre drives, but then you will need a
connection for each drive into the SAN Fabric/Switch. This option would
tie up a lot of switch ports, and we are not ready to do that yet. Of
course, the other option would be to buy a Fibre switch/fabric for the
tape system, and then connect that switch to your SAN(S).

We are still considering upgrading to LTO-3's, but have not done so,
just yet.

David- Who was/is the drive manufacturer? What type of connections do
you have for the library?

Thanx

Michael -

We've bought 2 Spectralogic libraries over the past 2 years, a T-950,
and also a T-120, with 6 LTO-2 drives.

Let me know if you have any specific Spectralogic questions. We've
found them very reliable. The only thing that we have
replaced/repaired are the tape drives.

Subject: [Networker] new tape library/solution

Hello All- We are looking for a new hardware solution to go with
Networker. Our current setup is NW 7.1.3, Win2k SP4 server and an ADIC
Scalar 100 with 2 LTO1 drives. We have W2k/2k3, UNIX and Linux clients.
Our data has increased to ~750GB and we are adding some databases soon
which will put us up into the 1TB realm. The old girl (ADIC) cannot keep
up anymore.

We are looking at adding a Linux database server attached to a SAN (SAN
vendor unknown at this point) via Fibre Channel. We also have an
EqualLogic SAN which our Windows servers are attached to now via iSCSI.
We are looking to do disk-disk snapshots and back up those images to
tape (probably LTO2 in order to preserve the investment in all our LTO1
media). We would like to attach the SANs directly to the library/hw
solution if possible.

Spectralogic's T120 w/4 LTO2 drives has been suggested to us already.

Suggestions on solutions, or good research websites that compare backup
solutions are much appreciated.

Thanx
