Subject: [Networker] Networker 7.2.1 on Sun Ultra 20?

Hey All,

After reading through the archives I feel like I should hold off on
upgrading to 7.3, Anyone have any success with 7.2.1 with x86 or amd
solaris. The guy before me thought it would be a good idea to use
these new ultra 20's from sun with the amd processor. Supposedly 7.2.1
doesn't support x86 but I have read other places they have NW Server for
x86. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. I am currently running
7.2.1 clients and servers on solaris/sparc.

Thanks

Ben

Ben,

We are also a v7.2.1 clients and server with a mix of solaris/sparc and
linux and one Ultra 20 with amd solaris. V7.2.1 will not work since
there is no package for solaris amd 64 until v7.3. Having no other
choice, we have been successfully backing up the lone workstation using
the v7.3 client and I've done a test restore successfully. I have not
done a full D&R test. All of my log files are happy, too. I know the
rule of thumb is that clients should not be newer than the server, but I
am not willing to upgrade my backup system to v7.3 based on the dialog
on this list. Also, the workstation in question is on the desk of our
Lead SA and he has been informed of the situation and knows to take
steps to protect any data that cannot be lost. I hope this helps.
