[Networker] Problems duplicating a large saveset
2006-03-10 10:00:00
Hi everyone. Here's our latest dilemma - hope somebody can offer advise.
We have a large saveset that spans 10 volumes of tape (amongst other data
on the same tape). We need to clone that saveset, but because of the slow
speed of cloning, we cannot clone it on the backup server that created it
(Solaris btw)- not enough time to dup it before the next backup run.
We have tried....
Using scanner to rebuild the media indexes on a windows networker server -
don't seem to get complete information on the saveset
Using scanner on another unix networker server with more resources -
again - the scanner doesn't seem to like the order of tapes we scan and
ends up incomplete. (Tried running scanner in parallel on a few drives,
and also just one at a time). Also it doesn't seem that networker
recognizes the tape in the drive during a scanner, so when regular backups
occur, got i/o errors (until I disabled the scanner drive after the tape
was loaded)
If anybody has actually gone through a similar process, I would appreciate
any ideas of what worked. We already have a case open with EMC and I've
read the man pages of scanner several times.
Thanks in advance
Jim
