Hi Librado
Well I've done some investigating of this <RES> problem here and it's difficult
to know whether this is a Networker issue, as there is definitely something odd
about this directory even though everything else (user is using it daily) is
working fine.

Basically, the directory in question does have a problem (or two in fact).

First, the owner was shown as Unknown (looking at it in Remote Manager). I've
changed the ownership successfully in ConsoleOne so that is now fixed. Why it
was unknown is 'unknown'.

Second, the directory is shown as having Immediate Compression enabled. We
don't use compression here. However, I can't deactivate it. When I uncheck it
and click apply, it pops back!

I have done a directed recover of this directory and it may be some comfort to
you to know that it restored fine (all trustees intact etc), and, it fixed the
Immediate Compression problem. So, I'm going to schedule a time to rename the
offending directory and restore it.

Be interesting to see if the directory then shows up as <DIR> as it should.

My guess is that there has been an NSS glitch at some point, and I'd do a
poolverify but that means taking the pool offline (not a popular idea). Im
fairly convinced the restore is going to fix it after these tests, so I'm
taking the path of least resistance!

Might be an idea to have a good hard look at this USERS directory of yours and
see if you can see anything 'different' about it.
Might also be worth doing a restore to some temporary location, let Networker
back it up and see if that shows as <RES> or <DIR>.

Cheers... Allan.

Hello,

Here's the case# 536939.
My Netware server is on NW v6 sp5 and I cannot suggest to my Network buddies to
upgrade or apply anymore patch to try in resolving this problem, due to the
frequency of abends we got since we upgraded to v7.2. I just hope that nobody
request a file restore in the 'Users' folder during the weeks that it was
backed up on this newer version.

regards,
Librado

Hi
Re this <RES> problem.
We have this problem on one folder on a volume too.
We're running Netware6.5 sp3 at the moment and Networker client 7.2 (with the
latest jumbo patch applied).

Do you have an incident number / call log number or whatever with EMC on this
<RES> problem, as I'll be reporting this too and it should help if I can quote
the bug report.

Cheeers... Allan.

Good luck with your upgrade. We decided to back rev. to v4.22 because since we
upgraded to v7.2 our main data server and border servers became unstable,
almost abends every night when the backup starts or just browsing files for
restores.
Also one thing the Legato Tech. support cannot resolve is this big question:

one of our main folder 'Users' is successfully backed up as <DIR> in v4.22, but
when we upgraded to v7.2 and on the restore window it only shows up as <RES>
hence you cannot expand it and restores files. This is a seriously important
folder as this is where the users save their network profiles and email
archives.

According to Legato Tech. support, we have to get Novell involved on this, but
Novell itself I think is already de-supporting NetWare O/S unless you have a
plan to migrate to Novell OES.

Ryan,

Still having trouble with SP5? (I am mulling over plans to apply SP5 here)

In related news, did you see Novell has a new libc for the RPC errors:
