Why is the first step necessary? I don't think its necessary from a
technical standpoint to delete the old auto changer license, but that
may depend on how the new license was obtained.
Strictly speaking it's not.
Thierry is pretty much correct, but has missed a field that also needs
to be changed. The complete list (IIRC) of attributes that need editing are:
physical slots
available slots
volumes
volume ids
and optionally:
cleaning slots
max parallelism
volumes and volume ids are the most tricky, since they need to contain
exactly the correct amount of fields.
