In that case if you are not sharing the drives why unmount them at all. Let
networker unmount when a tape becomes full. If you need to unmount to send
tapes offsite and you have a script to identify what tapes to go offsite
just start the script with a nsrjb -u .
Many hardware vendors recommend you not leave tapes sitting indefinitely
in idle drives. There was a well-known issue with some DLT7000 drives
where the drives would actually fail if they had prolonged instances of
tapes left in idle drives.
If you're certain that this does *not* apply to your drives, then you're
absolutely correct -- you could just as easily leave the tapes in the
drives all the time, and let NetWorker free drives as needed.
