Hi

I'd suggest not to follow the filer documentation. We once had a problem (on
upgrading to NetWorker 7.2) where all the backups will go through without any
errors or warnings and the group icon would show green. But all of the NDMP
backups from those client definitions where a specific option was set in the
"Application Information" were actually writing only 512KB as against the
actual sizes in gigabytes.

We realised this late and took this case to Legato. On checking the
configuration, Legato concluded that one of the option we had set
(FILESYSTEM=/vol) in our client definition was not supported by Legato (I still
don't understand how it was behaving good with NetWorker 6.1.3).

We were sure that this was set referring to a NetApp documentation. But Legato
strongly suggested us not to use any "Application Information" options other
than those specified in their Admin Guide.

However, ours was a case with Network Appliance filers. I am not too sure if
this would be the same for Celerra as well. But it is better to test the
options before implementing in "live" configurations.

Rgds, Ram.

Hi Pierpa

You should use what you find in the NDMP chapter of the NetWorker Administrator
Guide as your guide. Page 622 of the NetWorker V7.2 Administrator Guide
mentions that both 'HIST=y' and 'UPDATE=y' are usually required. Table 87 on
p. 651 lists the two additional Celerra information variables ('DIRECT=y/n' and
'OPTIONS=NT').

But, it's important to remember that these values are just passed by NetWorker
(which does not act upon them) to the NDMP server, which understands and acts
on them. So, your filer documentation is the best and final source of
information on these information variables. Documentation on EMC products
(like the Celerra) can be found at http://powerlink.emc.com.

Subject: [Networker] NDMP Celerra application informations values

Hi all,
I'm trying to figure out which are on a Celerra platform the application
informations values I can send to che celerra.
As far as I can ee from the docs there are

HIST=y
DIRECT=y
UPDATE=y

in my experience, I used also

UTF8=y for nonstandard locale ascii characters.
EMCFILES
OPTION=nt

I have a doubt on the last one. On the 7.2 documentation I see

OPTIONS=nt

while on the 7.x Training books I see

OPTION=nt

which is the right one ?
There is a place where I can find all to possible options to pass to the
celerra box ?

Thanks in advance for any suggestion

                              Pierpa
