Generally, no. The tape remains loaded unless the drive is needed
for
something else.
Unless the drive is part of a shared library, then it will be
unloaded after a specified period. This is defined by the "Idle
device timeout" parameter in the NSR jukebox resource.
Not unless the drives are in a tape silo. The idle device timeout
period seems to be ignored in regular tape libraries, at least that's
my experience, but it is the way I prefer things to work anyway.
