Check the nic cards settings and make sure you have no nic card and switch
port mismatch.

Subject: [Networker] Windows 2003 - Poor performance

Hi
Wonder if anyone else has any problems with slow backups when backing up
Windows 2003 servers?

Server: Solaris 9 - Networker 7.2.1 server - gigabit card
Client: Windows 2003 - Networker 7.2.1 client - gigabit card
Jukebox: Quantum ML1800 with 2 x SDLT600 drives.

We've just recently upgraded this Windows box to Windows 2003 (from
Windows2000), and found the performance on backups has gone through the
floor.
For example this weeks full backup ...

W2003server: D:\ level=full, 294 GB 18:25:19
66556 files
( roughly 16GB hr)

It's not contention of any kind, as the biggest filesystem on a Netware
client (300 gb - 900,000 files) finishes in 10 hours. Even on this, I get
around 24GB hr backup speed, and there are many more small files than on the
Windows2003 server.
For the next 8 hours this is the only saveset still running, and it seems to
be backing up at around 2-3mB sec.

We've tried FTP's etc and they seem normal (ie nice and fast).
Data is on a RAID5 array directly attached to the server (9 * 146gb
drives).

When this server was on Windows 2000 and Networker 7.2.1 it backed up MUCH
faster - OK, there are around 20,000 fewer files (but more data) but I
wouldn't expect that to make over 10 hours difference in backup time.

W2000server: D:\ level=full, 300 GB 08:08:02
40139 files
(roughly 37GB hr)
Unfortunately? this is the only Windows2003 server I have so have nothing to
compare it with.

Any ideas for resolving this would be greatly appreciated.

Cheeers... Allan.
