Ah, i dont think you should allow multiple bootstraps to happen
simultaneously... i think it's somewhat undefined what would happen if
many bootstraps are trying to lock the media db at once.

why not arrange for the backup of the legato server to ran last....
after all the other backups...the trick is that the group with the
actual backup server in it needs to be auto-scheduled, otherwise legato
will add the bootstrap to all groups when they run.... and you just dont
need that... in any case a bootstrap backup is only the contents of the
/nsr/res and /nsr/mm directories and has nothing to do with the client
indexes.

and an unrelated side note on group naming... we actually got fobbed off
by legato support once because our groupnames had underscores in them
like yours... the phone-dude was adamant that this was the cause of our
problem (it wasnt) and if you look in the appendix of the manual you
will actually find that underscores are not legal in any resource name,
so, don't use underscores lest you get that guy on the phone one day...

It actually is a pain to manage, but I've just gotten feed up with one
client that hangs an entire group and then it doesn't run the next
night.

Since I have an entry for the server in each group(for index retention
length purposes) it does actually put quite a load on the server. I'm
trying to decide what I'm going to do about that. It runs 600+
bootstraps a night which cause the server to not respond at times. I'm
considering moving the indexes to another pool so that I don't have to
worry about the retention time causing my media to not recycle.

By your response, I take it you use large groups. Do you not have
problems with hanging clients? How do you handle your indexes?

Thanks!

Joel

Just out of curiosity, why would you use a single group per client?
That seems like a lot of trouble and effort to manage, plus it creates a
lot of added overhead on the NetWorker server, unless you happen
to manage a very small NetWorker data zone.
