We also have a Dell PV136T and we have never had to unlock the mailbox
slots in order to insert or remove tapes, it's always unlocked except
when I place new tapes into them and close the mailbox slot door, then
it locks while it scans the slots... Here are the User-Guide
instructions for unlocking the slots:

Locking/Unlocking the Mailbox
Use Sensors to lock and unlock the Mailbox. This lock feature can be
useful if you want to restrict access to the library. This command is
often used with an Operator Panel password activated.

Path: Main menu -> Service -> Library -> Diags -> Sensors

Use the following steps to lock/unlock the Mailbox.

1. From the Main menu, select Service and then select Library. Select
Diags and then Sensors.
The sensor information is displayed. For information on this dialog, see
Getting Sensor Information. )(Mailbox-lock is named 'IE Lock' in
reference, you want to set 'IE Lock=0' )

2. Select Lock/Unlock to lock and unlock the Mailbox. When you are done,
select Cancel.

I too have a Dell 136T and have the same problems. I have contacted
Dell and legato both on the problem. Both Dell and Legato keep pointing
fingers. So I have come to the point to open the main door of the unit.
Have you gotten a fix for this problem yet?

Subject: [Networker] Lock/unlock mailbox

Hi,

we are running Legato 7.2 on a Windows 2003 Server with a Dell
PowerVault 136T tape library which has a mailbox with 12 slots. I have
the problem to unlock the mailbox:

The mailbox ist always locked, only switching off and on the library
unlocks it. The description in the DELL Manual Locking/Unlocking the
mailbox (inMain menu -> Service -> Library -> Diags -> Sensors) had no
effect.

I read something about a SCSI command Prevent/Allow Medium Removal which
should be issued from the host application software. I have no idea
where I should find this command. I don't know if my problem is in
Legato or from DELL.

Any help appreciated.

Hilde
