Hi Johan,
a workaround could be that you install a small linux machine in
your prepress dept and config it as a client for Directed Recovers
They could use this central console to do all the restores for the
XServes.
You will have to create a user with elevated rights on this
machine, but the Admin Guide has very clear instructions on how to
set this up
I doubt that strategy would work because NetWorker's Linux client
would no nothing about the HFS+ file system meta data that most
people use on their Macs.
The question about a lack of a GUI for the Mac OS X NetWorker client
is no big deal. You just open up a terminal window and use a command
line recover. We do not back up any Mac OS X Servers at my site, but
we do back up several Mac OS X servers (not the lower case "s"). My
primary workstation is a Dual Processor Power Mac G5 and it works
fine with NetWorker and I have done recover tests. The lack of a GUI
for the Mac OS X NetWorker client is no big deal, but I also don't
even use the NetWorker recover GUI on other Unix systems; I find it
much easier to use the command line for doing file recovers. In fact,
that's true on Windows too.
