Only if you want to:
a) back up your system using the Windows 2003 VSS service, or
b) not see a message in every completion message that VSS is
disabled, and
c) not see a message in every completion message that VSS is not
licensed.
The VSS service is Microsoft's "New Way" to run backups. It includes
functionality to back up SQL server (As part of the VSS SYSTEM SERVICES:
saveset) as well as the rest of the server.
