[Networker] problems with jukebox driver, Win2K3 server
2005-10-04 22:49:38
In the past, installing the specific driver for my Overland Power Loader
tape library broke Legato. Under Win2K server, the media change (the
library controller, not the tape drives themselves) were unknown; if I
installed the driver, the hardware showed up as known hardware and Windows
controlled it as Removable Storage Service hardware and Legato could not use
it. If I uninstalled the driver (and removed all driver cache files so it
didn't get re-recognized), then the hardware showed up as 'Unknown Media
Changer' in the device manager and all was well with Legato.
Now, I am trying to set up the same jukebox on a Win2K3 server. The driver
is a built-in known entity, the driver is there by default. I can't seem to
remove it. If I rename the c:\Windows\system32\drivers\libxprmc.sys file to
an *.old extension, it gets replaced by copies from the
c:\Windows\system32\dllcache, or c:\Windows\Driver Cache\i386\driver.cab
directory, or another i386\driver.cab file (company-customized for our
build). I am loath to try to remove all these copies... If I try to set up
the jukebox, I get errors. If, in the manage computer console, I try to
open the Removable Storage Service snap-in, it fails with an error (which
may be due to our company-customized build disabling it somehow).
Any ideas how to make this work?
