Re: [Networker] Dynamic WWNs for FC tape drives

We are using this "feature". It has an advantage if you need to
replace a drive for some reason. The WWNs are configured into
the drives when the library IPLs (Resets). This way you do not
have to configure any zoning or drive to WWN bindings on the host.
The problem we have at present, is that if the drive is power
cycled, it does not configure itself correctly. (I suspect,
although I have not determined conclusively, that the WWN is
not set under this condition). If I reset the library the
drive comes on line with the library-assigned WWNs.
My library firmware is
Code Version: 3.07.00
Build Date: Feb 6 2004 17:24:09
And the drives are IBM LTO Ultrium 1
Vendor SCSI Product ID Rev Device Type
---------- ------------------ ------ ---------------
'IBM ' 'ULTRIUM-TD1 ' '4561' 1 = Sequential Access (Tape)
I am getting a firmware upgrade next week, so I might find if the
problem disappears.

I'll ask my engineer also. It may be dependent on what type of
HBAs your
using and how they are
zoned. What library firmware are you using? I must not have this
enabled because all my drives
have a port WWN and a node WWN..both of which are similar; both are
from the
FC drive itself
and change with the drive.
You could check the WWN cache of your switch to see what number it is
seeing. It would be really
neat to override the tape drive's WWN and have the library present
the same
ones all the time.

Yes, we were told by Storagetek Engineers on L700e it is possible, if
library IPL'd. What IPL mean ? When dWWN was enabled on library, we
are
seeing two wwns for each drive in library front panel. But don't
know which
wwn will be recognised by SAN switch?
Thanks

Is this possible on the L700? Our drives go right to the switch. Can
the library override/rewrite the WWN of a drive?

Hi,
We want to enable the dynamic WWN feature on L700 and for LTO II FC

How do I enable it on L700 and what are the configurations needs

Each drive should be shared by backup server, and 4 storagenodes
in SAN
environment. Please also share me if you are noticing any issues
with dWWN
feature.
Thanks in advance,
