Good morning,
"Been there, done that".
I still have an open call to Legato regarding the same problem/issue, but mine
is very easy for Legato to point at the O/S because I'm using Red Hat ES3
kernel 2.4.21, according to them I have to upgrade to kernel 2.4.29 which is
more stable and much compatible with most SCSI devices/drivers. Did that,
downloaded the kernel, compiled, rebooted and put in production, still getting
the same problem/issues, but not as frequent as before.
Since that you are on Windows platform, most likely your problem is related to
SCSI drivers (go to your adapter's web site and check for the latest drivers).
Don't know if you can tweak tape block size on Windows, also I won't recommend
it, might end up that you won't be able to read from your previous backup tapes.

It might be a SCSI problem, or possibly an issue with how the
blocking factor is set. Can you write data to a scratch tape directly
from the OS? Do you have any errors in your system logs?
