Sounds strange but that's not unusual with SCSI devices. I've been
dealing with SCSI voodoo magic for almost 16 years now.

What type of SCSI is this? LVD or HVD? How many drives do you have
connected in the same SCSI channel? Is the robotics connected in the
same string?

What type of scsi cables and/or terminators are you using? If you aren't
using Granite Digital cables, I would recommend switching to them
(http://www.granitedigital.com/catalog/indx_scsi.htm).

My recommendation if you have the room in the server to have a separate
SCSI card that connects to the robotics, and an additional card or
separate channel for each 3-4 tape drives. The tape drives and robotics
shouldn't be on any chain with disk drives.

BTW, about a year ago we finally punted SCSI for backups. We are using
all native FC devices and 95% of my backup problems have gone away.
