If you are using non-NDMP devices, NDMP in 7.2 is a pain on restores. The
entire saveset must be read in order to do any restore (non-DAR). 7.2.1
promises to change this. Hope so.

We just started using NDMP and are on 7.2. No experiences on former versions.

Hi Michael

Without (yet) answering your questions directly, please consider taking a look
at the new features available in NetWorker V7.2. There are HUGE changes
relating to NDMP, and I think you'll like the additional options this release
will give you.

Hope this helps!

We received a new EMC Celerra NAS server and I was hoping for some pointers at
backing it up. We also have a Clarion for SAN use, fyi. Before we start - I
wasn't consulted on the purchase, so what follows is the situation as handed to
me after the fact.

I read through the Celerra doc "Configuring NDMP Backups with Celerra & Legato
Networker", which is reasonably self explanatory (except that I'm still
becoming familiar with EMC concepts and terminology).

What bothers me is that all the examples assume you have your tape jukebox
either connected to a Data Mover or SAN.
That's all well & good except my jukebox is attached to the backup server via
SCSI with current NDMP backups (Netapp) running over the network.

Can I backup the Celerra as I do the Netapps, over the LAN?
Or am I looking at jukebox hw purchases to attach it to the SAN or a Data Mover?

server
------
Legato 6.1.4
Solaris 5.8

jukebox
-------
Spectralogic 12000, with drives split equally between std SCSI devices off
server & NDMP devices
