Hi,

We have very recently migrated our email from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange
2003 Enterprise.

As such I am not very familiar with exactly what data is associated with
each saveset of a Exchange 2003 server. I am not responsible for the
setup/maintenance of the Exchange 2003 server (only ensuring that
Networker is backing it up appropiatly). However, the people
responsible for it (as well as the consultants we've had to help in the
migration) have not been able to explain this with any satisfaction.

With Exchange 5.5 we simply backed up the MSEXCH:DS and MSEXCH:IS
savesets, and I'm assuming that doing this backed up everything
(mailboxes, calendar info, etc...).

In reading the documentation for Networker's Business Suite 4.x for
Exchange 2000, it is unclear exactly what the MSEXCH:IS saveset really
backs up (the docs says its all databases in a storage group).

Up until yesturday I was assuming (until I had time to actually research
it) that the MSEXCH:IS saveset included everything. In doing research
(thanks to the Networker mailing list among other sources), I found out
that you have to backup the MSEXCH:MB saveset to get private mailboxes,
which I assume is usually where a user's personal inbox is found.

Our MSEXCH:IS saveset is currently about 11 Gbyte and our MSEXCH:MB
saveset (from last night, the first time its been backed up) is 12
Gbyte. So if the MSEXCH:IS saveset doesn't include mailboxes, why is it
so huge?

We have about 350 users in the US and another hundred or so
internationally (who use Exchange servers local to them). Our Active
Directory is on a seperate machine, and I feel comfortable with
backup/restore of the AD.

Our Networker server is 7.1.2 running on HPUX 11i. We are using the
Networker Business Suite v4.0.2

I'd like a clear explanation of what each Exchange 2003 saveset
contains. I'm looking for a better explanation than whats in the
Networker documentation. The end goal here is to ensure that I am
backing up everything to ensure that we are backing up all email
messages, calendar info, personal address books, tasks, and any other
data on the Exchange 2003 server.

Here are the savesets I now know about (but want a clear explanation as
to what specifically they contain).

        MSEXCH:IS
        MSEXCH:KMS
        MSEXCH:SRS
        MSEXCH:MB
        MSEXCH:PF
