EMC licensing should be able to answer this for you, even without a
support contract. I think it's fair to ask and be told what each
license does before you pay maintenance/support on it.

If you need a fast answer and want to test in-the-field what happens,
make a copy of your Server/Registration info (so that you have the
enabler and auth code for the ClientPak written down somewhere else) and
remove the ClientPak for UNIX. I'd restart the server and do some test
backups and see what works and what doesn't.

My guess, from what I've heard, is that your first point is right. If
you are only backing up Solaris boxes and the server is Solaris, you
don't need an additional clientpak (but you wouldn't be able to backup
AIX or HPUX or SGI.) The 'nsrlic -v' output will show you
SERVER/CLUSTER CLIENT TYPES as Networker sees them if you want to verify
you're all Solaris, Linux and Windows.

Legato support/maintenance is a lot of money. Pester them to get you
the info you need to make decisions about it.
