Ed,

I've got a similar problem and case open with Legato. I was having a
problem getting the virtual client's disks to associate with the virtual
client in Legato and not the physical client that was currently serving
the disks.

What helped, and I'm not sure why, was putting entries for all of the
involved machines (physical clients, virtual clients, and backup server)
in the hosts file on each machine (including the backups server.) This
made the physical client just see their local disks, and the virtual
client seeing the cluster disks, (see below) with all the clients
savesets set to All and nothing special to the save command or
pathownerignore files. DNS was resolving just fine from all the hosts
and the information was consistent in DNS across all the hosts -- but
putting it in the hosts file helped. The virtual client configs have
both of the physical client nodes (*@PHYSICAL-NODE) in their Remote
Access config fields.

My current issues involve cluster disks that are mounted as a
subdirectory (instead of a root drive,) get picked up by the physical
client and not the virual cluster client. I've asked Legato to look
into that.

I also have a problem when I setup two different virtual cluster clients
across two physical cluster clients. (Two physical nodes, two virtual
nodes, with each "primary" on a different physical node.) When they
backup I get "Resource temporarily unavailable" errors and timeouts and
failures. A savegroup probe of an involved client (physical or virtual)
takes over a minute. If I pause one of the physical clients and move
its cluster disks over to the other physical node, everything works fine
(probe returns in under 9 seconds.) I also get an occasional license
unavailable error, when there are enough licenses and a retry of the
savegroup works fine. I'm still looking into these issues with Legato.

I was advised to try the 7.1.3 Windows client, but I'm still running
7.1.2 on the server and need to wait to upgrade. Have you tried
updating the clients on the cluster (you said they're still running
7.1.2) and see if that helps?

Dave
