If you back up by Database, then recovery will be faster than if you were
to backup by mailbox. That would be of course in the case of DR where you
want the exhcnage DB recovered, as compared to a single mailbox.
Now if you backup to Disk and are keeping the retention time on disk say a
week or more and you are likely to recover mailbox objects within that
week, then mailbox backups to disk would be nice and then perhaps weekly
full backups of the exchange db for DR purposes.
The Admin guide has the various saveset names that you can specify for DB
and mailbox level backups.
