  Okay...

The re-installation of the NetWare client didn't helped at all... =(

Any other ideas? Someone?...

I have exactly the same error message with an Ultrix client (Networker 4.0) and a 7.1.3 server. It used to work when the server ran 7.1.2.

There was a similar problem in 6.1.3 that hit all 4.x clients (Netware, SunOS 4, Ultrix, OS/2). It worked in 6.1.2 and before and was fixed in 6.1.4.

Maybe this is not exactly the same problem as then, but it looks like they broke the support of older clients again :-(.

I remember that problem too. However, I can tell you that we upgraded to
7.1.3 this past weekend on our Linux NetWorker server, and all our
NetWare 6.5sp2 + NetWorker client 4.22 backups are working as reliably
(not saying much) as under our 6.1.3 server. Restores are another
issue...

I did set the

NSR_SUPPORT_NETWARE_4X=1
export NSR_SUPPORT_NETWARE_4X

in /etc/init.d/networker script, thanks mainly to discussion about it on
this last earlier this month. I wouldn't have known anything about it if
not for that. I haven't seen it mentioned in the release notes or install
guide, which frustrates me.

Running strings on /usr/sbin/nsrd doesn't turn up any NSR_SUPPORT_ULTRIX_4X
environment variable, though, so you may have to contact Legato to find
out what gives. There is an NSR_AUTH_METHODS variable, but I have no idea
how one uses it.

For what it's worth, setting NSR_SUPPORT_NETWARE_4X allowed the Ultrix client to work again... On the other hand, a slightly more recent (4.2.6) SunOS client works with a 7.1.3 server without any tinkering.
