with Solaris and other unixes I've seen it is a function of the tape
driver to set the correct codes for the different tape devices. So with a
correct driver for LTO2 I would expect /dev/rmt/0[b][n] to be no
compression and /dev/rmt/0c[b][n] to be using hardware compression, there
are other entries that will map to no compression or hardware compression
or other options for a drive if available (and the driver written
correctly).
