The time to label a tape is minimal.  In our Quantum L1800 tape library, it
takes less than 5 minutes to label a tape.

Because the amount of data being backed up is subject to significant
fluctuations, we usually don't pre-label tapes.  It is rarely a problem
although Networker will occassionally send out alerts because it is waiting
for tapes from a specific pool.
