Gary,

You should be able to select some type of picker slot calibration test for
the TreeFrog. This is essentially a re-branded Spectra Logic product that
you have and we have some in house. We mainly use the 64k line of libraries
but there firmware is the same for there entire line. Check in the menus on
the tape library and see if there is a pick slot calibration. You can also
run a "Install new picker" command and that would do it to.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice. Another person also suggested the SCSI bus and cable.

It's mildly problematic, as the SCSI bus the tape library is attached to, is
embedded on the system's mainboard, and I'm not sure the system will allow
for an add-in SCSI bus (system has two horizontal PCI slots as a 2U rack
server, and the top slot has the Mylex RAID card.)

(The server has powercycled each time the tape library was.)

(Since I'm responding also to the list...)

If there is someone who knows Treefrog libraries who could reply -- when I
power cycle the library the picker arm goes through a self-test. Near/at the
end of the test, the light on the arm changes from green to a flashing
amber. After
3 or 4 powercycles the arm will POST and stay green, and I can move one tape
from the stack into a drive. At that point the light turns amber, I get the
I/O error in Legato, and the library won't respond to commands. In your mind
would you suspect SCSIbus and cable, or hardware fault on the library? I'm
not sure if the light on the picker arm represents library status or
communications status. If anyone has any insight to offer I'd be grateful.
