Is the following possible and does anyone have a process in place?

-Clone a volume or group of save sets to a disk (file) device
-Zip the contents of the folder that contains the cloned data
-Burn that zip file to a DVD
-Lable the file device to flush the data and ready it for another clone
process

Basically, I want to recycle some older tapes but retain the data by
copying it to DVD yet be able to retrieve it later. Since I believe the
clone process does not copy index files, would it then be possible to
reverse this process and use the scanner utility to retrieve this data and
make it restoreable?
