We had the same problem (same server OS, variety of clients).
Restarting the NW server software fixed the problem.

I've seen this here too a couple of times. The solution was to remove
all entries in the 'aliases' field of the client definition, and
click on 'ok'. the aliases field will be filled again, but now the
backups should work.....
