I must admit I havn't tested any of these but whilst I can see Legato
handling software compression/decompression, I would have thought that
hardware compression could only be dealt with by the hardware. So I'd say
yes for software both ways and for for reading a non-compressed tape
(assumes that all hardware will have a non compress mode) and no for
restoring a hardware compressed tape on a drive without the
compression/decompression hardware.
