Hello Teresa and Ken,

We have had occasional reports of this from customers for some time, but I
have never observed it, nor have our testers reported seeing it.

We in Legato, and the Microsoft Exchange engineers, have both placed
functionality into our code to try to avoid this. We (Legato) try to always
exit cleanly in case of failure (obviously we cannot if somebody does a kill
on our process, or it dies through a process crash), and Microsoft has put
in timers such that an active backup will timeout if no activity is seen,
and the store will be put back into production.

Both Legato and Microsoft will place events entries wrt this type of
activity into the Application Event log. Please look there to see if you
can see anything out of the ordinary.

Hope that this helps,
_Scott

There are several storage groups on this server. All but one back up
successfully. Unfortunately, the one storage group that is failing is
the one with most of our users.

What version server and Exchange module do you have?

Thanks.
Teresa

The client is going to reboot the server tonight before the backup
begins. I
will let you know what happens?

Does the backup fail immediately?

Did the reboot work?

Teresa

I am having the exact same problem with one of my Exchange Servers and
contacted Legato Support and did some troubleshooting and still had the
problem. They finally told me to reboot the Exchange Server to fix any
hung
processes.

We're getting the following message about a backup already being active.
There are no nsrxchsv.exe processes. Any ideas might be causing this?

Thanks.
