You may have answered a question that just came up. I don't recycle
tapes, I relabel them, so their Volume number (ex linux.0350) keeps
going up. Do we now agree that thisw is the case: Recycling doesn't
implement new block sizes but relabeling does? (When you relabel, even
if you don't remove the volume first, I think the new blocksize is
implemented. This is the point that Dave Gold and I were disagreeing
about. I had written a number of postings and there were numerous
answers last July, when I went from the default block size to one set
under stinit.def on my Linux server.

This has not been my experience, at least not with NetWorker 6.1.3 under
Solaris 9 with Sony AIT-2 tapes. I have to physically overwrite an
existing tape label before NetWorker will apply my desired block size to
the tape.

Two items --

       1. Is there something wrong here? We know there are people from
Legato who read this list who could be providing definitive answers
without this turning into a research project! (Maybe I"m just being
obtuse, wouldn't be the first time.)

       2. When you "physicially overwrite" the label, do you mean
that you delete the volume from the database or do you overwrite the
label with some mt command. It's certainly clear that recycling and
relabeling (from Networker's point of view) behave differently. But
how could Networker give a new volume label (e.g. linux.0001 becomes
linux.100) without overwriting the label. (Of course, I guess there's
no guarantee that the Solaris and Linux servers behave the same either.)
