Rejected it due to attachments. If anyone would like to see the code, I can
post it in email format.....but I'll only do so if there is interest. So if
you're interested, reply to me and/or the list mail and I'll post the code.

Since you also asked about a manual and automatic process both, I thought I'd
provide our solution that allows us to do either manual or automated labels of
recycled tapes......w/o waiting for legato to do it for us. Honestly, our
drives are busy enough that running out of labeled empty media results in long
waits and more (unnecessary) media calls.....so we always stay ahead of the
game in media counts. These scripts make that possible with less work than
before.

Attached will be 3 files:
label_volumes.sh - interactive labeling of recycled -OR- scratch; execute
locally on each storage node/master
sched_label.sh - cron job to auto-label up to a pre-defined limit; execute
locally on each storage node/master
tape_check.sh - manual job to list tape counts on multiple servers; execute
remotely from any master

To update for your own environment, put in your own master and jukebox
variables. Also, if executing a storage node version of the labelers, use "-s
Master" instead of "-j MasterJukebox". And obviously, update the various pool
definitions to match your own pool names.

Please feel free to question/comment/other on the scripts. I'd enjoy any
feedback that may come out. Thanks

How do you get tapes that are marked for "recycle" to auto label
themselves on a Solaris Legato Networker Server? If you can't do it
automatically, how do you do it manually, or both would be much
appreciated.

Thank you,
Steve
