Just brainstorming...could uasm help to move the indexes?
...like copying files using uasm in unix: uasm -s . | (cd <target dir>;
uasm -iv)

I read that you will be moving the library but if retention is critical
why not keep the original system intact? For restores you would not
have to use a library where a single drive would do. Scope the cost to
maintain a dormant M$ restoration system and move ahead with fresh
indexes in your new Solaris environment. And congratulations on moving
to a more stable platform.
