If you do this with 7.1 the group that the NetWorker Server or Storage Node
is in will fail. Try leaving RSM enabled and just disable the medium changer
in device manager.

I'm a little late on this one but....

We simply disable the Removable Storage Service on all Storage Nodes, SAN
Storage Nodes, and servers. It seems an unnecessary extra piece in an
already messy puzzle.

While we see entries in the savegrp output:
towrst01.naptg.com SYSTEM DB:\\
succeeded:full:save:save.exe -c TOWRST01.naptg.com
* towrst01.naptg.com:SYSTEM DB:\\ Removable Storage Database - rsmow: Could
not start RSM service for backup operation.
* towrst01.naptg.com:SYSTEM DB:\\ Removable Storage Database - Error saving
towrst01.naptg.com: SYSTEM DB:\\   level=full    972 KB 00:00:04      9
files

These so-called errors do not affect the group's success/failure status for
us. Are you sure nothing else is failing?

Subject: [Networker] Networker 7.x and MS RSM

I am running NetWorker 7.1 on Windows 2003 SP3. I was wondering how
others in a similar configuration have RSM setup (i.e.
Enabled/disabled).

I had RSM disabled and the backup of my NW server was reporting a FAILED
outcome for SYSTEM DB:\ because it could not start the RSM service to
backup the RSM DB files, everything else was successful. I then set RSM
to MANUAL and everything was, NW started the service, backed up the RSM
DB, stopped the service and the job outcome was SUCCESS.

So, I have a few questions...

1) Do you use RSM and if so, how have you configured the AUTOCHANGERs
Windows drivers (enabled or disabled) and devices in RSM?

2) Does RSM cause any problems/conflicts with NW?

3) Do all storage nodes need to run RSM for the tape drives they see?

TIA, any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Jim Neild
