Hello Riaan,

Thank you very much for the advice. I have one more question, after I set all
these, how can I instruct the Networker to overwrite the tapes everytime it do
the full backup during Sunday? Or anyone can teach me on this.

TIA.

Frank

Hi There,

Without "drawing" out a what you want to do and without knowing Legato 5.5
by heart (by the way is there a reason that you are running this old version
of Legato??).

You can get your backups to go only a certain pool and backup in a certain
way:

Assuming that you are keeping all of your tapes in the library and you want
to make sure that the second week's data goes to the second tape:-

I would think that you would need to have a group and a pool for each tape.

It is a little bit involved: You would have 4 groups (only way that I know
of to send the data to a seperate pool) and you will have 4 seperate
"pools".

You will as well have to have a schedule for each of these groups, i.e. 1st
group's schedule will backup Full Sunday and inc rest of week - then skip
for 3 weeks before it repeats the same process (yes this will have to be
manually setup).

Second group will then use a seperate schedule, (with the same clients) ..
skip first week, backup second ..

And the third and the fourth ...

NORMALLY: We would just set up one group, with one schedule (that is easy to
setup) and make all of the tapes part of one pool. Setup a retention period
of say 3 weeks (then it gets recycled the fourth) and then you would
"manually" remove Tape 1 the end of week one, put it on a shelf / offsite
for 3 weeks, Tape 2 would then be used the second week, take that out the
beginning of week3 etc.

There are afew more things that you need to be aware of (liek if you have 4
tapes in the library all belongign to the same pool then Legato will use the
second tape, if it is availabe and the first is full).

But I digress ....

Regards,

Riaan

Hello All,

I've pondering this problem for quite some time. It's been a long while
since I got back being a Legato Administrator. I appreciate if someone can
teach me how to solve my problem. My problem is that, I have an old 5 tapes
DLT autoloader. One of the tapes is being used as a cleaning tape, basically
I have only 4 active rotational tape to use. I want to use the tape so that
the first tape will have a full backup during sunday and incremental other
days for first week (assuming first week start on Sunday). During the 2nd
week ( 2nd Sunday), the 2nd tape will be used, and full backup on Sunday and
incremental other days. During the 3rd week (3rd Sunday), again this will be
full backup and other days incremental. This will be also true on the 4th
tape which will have a full backup on the 4th Sunday and incremental other
days. This will repeat to the 1st tape on the 5th week and so on. My
question is, can this be done in Legato 5.5 and how.

Thank you to all, anyones help is highly appreciated.

TIA,

Frank
