You should always regard editing these files as an absolute last resort.
Yes you should be very careful, not only is it possible to corrupt things,
but also many attributes are interconnected and you need to edit
corresponding fields.

You must NEVER EVER EVER edit these files when NetWorker is up and running,
this is a surefire way to introduce corruption. NetWorker typically writes
back to these files many times a second during backups.

There are many environments where it is just not practical to stop
NetWorker to do this. Some are too busy for much of the time, and some are
in strictly change controlled environments.

In this particular case there are other ways to accomplish the same thing,
these are preferable.
