I can't remember the card model.  It was a site I did some consultancy for
last december.  I 'completed' the configuration of netbackup as it was
behind schedule because of the performance problems.  They told me that they
had changed the SCSI card on compaqs recommendation.  I thought one of two
things when I heard this:

1) it was an excuse for the project being behind schedule
2) compaq/adaptec have had a communication breakdown in the development of
their hardware/software.

You should try another scsi card that you have.  Test by backing up the
backup server itself so that the network is avoided.
