I had this issue as well - it got resolved by specifying the proper user and
password in the remote tab of the Client Properties.
I found that the user must be the same user that is used to start the SQL
services.
If SQL is started by "Local System", then the Amdministrator account should be
sufficient. Our SQL boxes are clustered, and as such, the service is owned by
a domain account, so that domain account had to be used in order to get a
successful logon and backup.
Internal SQL accounts were not able to be used, in my case.
