Re: [Networker] LTO speed is slow

NetWorker has an internal table, which is the same on every platform, that
defines the (for NetWorker) optimal block size for every device it supports.
If you define the NSR_DEV_BLOCK_SIZE_MSG=YES environment variable, whenever
a nsrmmd process starts, it will display this table. You want to make sure
that your SCSI adapter is using a block size that is at least as large as
the NetWorker device block size.
Also, remember that there are two ends to the transfer. If you are reading
from a disk that is slow or over-busy or badly fragmented, you'll of course
see lousy throughput to tape. See the NetWorker Performance Guide for ways
to check how quickly you can read from disk. If you are reading from a
bigasm-generated data file, then you're reading from a best-case (lots of
small files is the worst-case).
FWIW, I'd make sure your disk is running quickly, and learn what your SCSI
adapter block size is, before doing more tape tests.
Hope this helps.

Can't get my HP Ultrium drive to backup any faster then 1.2MB-sec. I've
update the firmware and drivers for the drive and SCSI controller (39160).
I'm backing up multiple streams from the local server and a couple of
clients with a Gig NIC set to GB Full duplex. Have tried just backing up
data from the local system from two drives and a RAID system.
I even used bigasm (discribed in the NW tunning guide).
O/S is WIN2K-sp3
NetWorker 6.2.
2-1.4GHZ CPU's
2GB mem
Any idea's ????
