Hi Guys,

A VERY important information for backup environments with Networker 6.x.x -
SmartMedia 1.5 - Storagetek SN6000 - Storagetek L700...

We have been using this very complicated solution for one year without very
big problems. Recently, STK decided to upgrade the firmware of SN6000
(their tape virtualizer) to the latest version 2.01.xx (now the latest is
2.1.xx), while we were using firmware 1.06.xx.

Suddenly after upgrading, it stopped working at all !! We spent the whole
day trying to figure out what happened and we discovered that this new
firmware version of SN6000 is completely NON compatible with SmartMedia
1.5. It changed the way the slots are reporting themselves, and SmartMedia
does not recognize them anymore !

It has been a disaster to create a workaround excluding Smartmedia from the
backup env. in less than 4 hours, waiting for a fix from Legato or STK.

So, if someone of you guys is still using SmartMedia 1.5 with SN6000 (most
of you should have already migrated to Alphastor, but we actually can't),
please DO NOT upgrade SN6000 firmware to any 2.xx.xx version, or SmartMedia
will stop working !!!

I hope this can help someone of you outside ! By the way, how many of you
are using a similar configuration ? This is just for me to know...
