As to why it's slow, if you're not getting any errors then probably
because of too much interleaving. I keep my target sessions set low(4)
which helps a little. But really there isn't a very good way to limit
this in a complex environment. There should be a "max sessions", but
that's beside the point. One way I've improved my cloning speed is by
cloning every "valid" saveset on a volume. Then it doesn't have to pick
and chose as much when it clones the volume. I get 30-80MBs sec with
9940B drives. You may not want to clone every saveset, but we do so
this works well for us.

Julio,

I don't know why it's so slow, but I just went through a very
similar exercise with the same results about 2 weeks ago,
also using DLT7000 drives. I attributed the slow speed to
the fact that the cloning process was having to "de-multiplex"
2 archive save sets from the original volume. I haven't yet
been able to confirm this, but it may explain your case too.

When I first started archiving, I'd archive things twice rather
than clone. Lately, I've tried to use cloning instead because
sometimes getting one archive to complete successfully,
especially a large archive, has been a challenge all its own.
