The only way to know is to run an estimate (savegrp -E), and to do an
estimate NetWorker has to walk the entire filesystem and look at all the
inodes.  This could be a slow process for huge filesystems, especially
ones with lots of files.

Yes, but you would likely have to do some scripting that would encode
knowledge about a particular client's schedule -- it could be done for
your environment, but would be hard to generalize for any environment.

You could either base your decisions on only past information (from
mminfo) or you could compare estimate output (savegrp -E) to mminfo
data to determine if it would be more efficient to just run a full.
