I'm seeing the exact same error message on a Netware 5.1 box:
Cannot make TSA connection to default NetWare server 0xfffdffba
Look to see if you have a SYS:NWLOG.TXT file after the failed backup. I
get the following:

I have done everything suggested by Joaquin, and that hasn't helped me. I
have another server at the same patch level, in the same tree, using the
same remote user and password combination, and it works just fine. The
user is the admin account so I know it has full rights to the file
systems. I started getting these messages when I added the TSA5UP11.EXE
patch. Before the patch (5.1SP5 level TSAs and SMDR), I was getting a
failed backup with no error codes, or references like the NWLOG.TXT has
now. I've been fighting with this for a couple months to try and get it
going. This is my last server to migrate off of Arcserve, but it hasn't
gone well for me.
I also posted a similar message to the Netware backup for 5.x newsgroup,
and am hoping to hear from someone there about the Netware error code
0xfffdffba. This is actually the first good clue I've received, so I now
hope that someone from Novell sees it and knows what the heck it means.
