configuration includes a AIT-3 tape library that would be used to clone the
data from the DX-30 for off-site storage. The DX-30 writes the data as if
it were writing to a DLT tape drive. So, in theory, we will end up cloning
data from a DLT medium to an AIT-3 medium.

There is absolutely no problem with cloning between different media types,
I have done it on several occasions. The only issue that I can think of is
that if the two media types have substantially different performance
characteristics, then the clone speed will be governed by the limits of the
slower media type. In your case the DX-30 emulates a DLT7000, but I don't
suppose the speed in any way relates to a real DLT7000.

With the enhanced disk backup functionality you don't necessarily need to
choose a disk device that can emulate a tape device. Any type of IDE or
SCSI disk array will do.
