I don't think you're psych-ward material just yet. I've seen similar
problems in our enviroment too, and I would be *very* skeptical that it's
a DNS problem for us. We have a very well-maintained DNS, and our
NetWorker server runs a caching nameserver and uses its caching nameserver
as its primary nameserver, so even if it couldn't talk to our other
nameservers, it should have all relevant information cached.

For us the NetWorker aliases are important, because most of our big hosts
have an interface on our backup network, and the clients have been created
within networker using the FQDN of the backup network interface.

As an example, if we have a "big" client with hostname of `foo' and it's
in the NoDak.edu domain, then we also have a `foo-2.NoDak.edu' DNS entry,
and that's foo's interface on our backup network. Within networker, the
client is created as

        foo-2.nodak.edu

but because the client's actual hostname is `foo' (or perhaps
`foo.NoDak.edu', for some of the clients I didn't set up), we need those
aliases within the NetWorker client setup.

I've seen occassions (very infrequent, so they're hard to debug) where
NetWorker reports the same error you showed in your original email. It
wasn't at just 6.1.2 for us, though -- it has happened with earlier versions
too.
