Hi, All

I'm trying to do a bit of a study to figure out how much spare capacity
I have left on my Networker servers during the available backup windows.
the data I'm trying to get at is how long the tape drives are in use
versus not in use over time. failing that I guess I could go with the
times that clients start and finish and guestimate from that what the
impact on the drives might be. the point of departure for all this is
that we've had it suggested to us (by Legato) that the way to increase
our data retention period is to clone our daily backup tapes, eject the
clone tapes from the jukebox and keep them on the shelf for however
long, ie. longer than we have capacity within the jukebox. I'm not wild
about this idea but then again I'm not the poor schlub who's going to
have to do all the tape handling. anyway, the issue is how much time to
we have available to devote to all this cloning that would be above and
beyond the backups we're already doing. if we don't have enough time
available then the suits will think about hardware upgrades but not if
they don't have to. so, to make a short story long, I've drawn the job
of trying to figure out how much free time we've got to spare and I'm
not sure how to go about it. I'd appreciate any suggestions from
whatever perspective. TIA
