I would like to add here .

I had to use uasm command sometimes instead of recover

# scanner -S 3814582274 /dev/rmt/1cbn | /usr/lib/nsr/uasm -rv -m
/home/export=/mnt
scanner: scanning 8mm 5GB tape 'volume name' on /dev/rmt/1cbn

and here again /mnt the destination partition should have free space =
/home/export size .
Otherwise you will get
"invalid data stream" error

- RAHUL

Stan's correct, but I'll add one more footnote. The saveset recover
will need to scan/read the entire saveset on tape, but will only
write/restore the individually selected directories. That means you'll
only need as much restore diskspace as the directory you're filtering,
but you'll still need all the tapes that span that saveset and those
multi-gig savesets will be entirely traversed in the restore.
