It's a feature built into the Celerra and (I think) the clairiion line.
Basically, you make a read-only copy of the data without copying it.  Things
that change on the "real" data are written to different disk blocks
transparently.  If the user wants data that was there yesterday, we look
at /mount/snapshots/volume/yesterday and copy the data from there rather
than reading from tape.

I do not know.  They're probably waiting for the NDMP version 5 spec to be
finalized (www.ndmp.org) which supports these sorts of operations.
