Hi Rob.

We use NetWorker 6.1.1 (Network Edition) running on Solaris 8 into ATL
P3000s (DLT7000 drives) or Sun L180s (DLT8000 drives).

* At my site in Dallas I back up about 275 machines per day, consisting of
about 60% win2k/NT and 40% UNIX boxes. Globally it's about 400 per day.

*My backups typically complete with about a 98% success rate. Like
Carter's experience, my backup failures are usually due to network- or
config-related issues, such as DNS misconfiguration, NIC misconfiguration
on the client end, etc.

*My full-time position is data preservation, so I spend approximately 7.5
- 9 hrs/day doing backups/recoveries, etc.

*I am the only person within my company doing this stuff full-time, but
globally we have probably 35-40 IS people who do backup/recovery stuff
(mostly recoveries) on an infrequent basis -- perhaps 1 hr a week or so.

Hi list,

I was wondering if I could talk anyone in to giving me a few minutes to
answer these questions. If you are not confortable on any of the
questions, of course do not answer them. An answer to any one of them
would be a great help to me.

How many machines do you back up?
On average what % of them complete error free?
How much time a day do you spend working with backups/clients/etc?
How many people work on backups/recovers?

Thanks,

Rob
